Jigsaw Galway

Our very first Jigsaw project, Jigsaw Galway is a partnership between HSE, Mental Health Ireland and Headstrong, along with a network of other key organisations.

Jigsaw Galway operates from its hub in Galway city with a strong focus on the development of outreach and community supports. This means that for a young person who cannot travel into the city, help can still be provided through one of the support workers or partner organisations who can meet them at their convenience.

As in all Jigsaw projects, services for young people are free and confidential.

youngballymun

Jigsaw youngballymun was a collaborative effort between Headstrong and youngballymun, an area-based systemic change strategy. youngballymun is a demonstration prevention and early intervention programme, jointly resourced by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and the Atlantic Philanthropies. Within Jigsaw youngballymun the focus of effort was to build the capacity of providers who work directly with young people (eg counsellors, teachers, youth workers) across the community, in the process building a network of coordinated and integrated support. Significant learning has been drawn from the experience of all the local partner organisations engaged with Jigsaw youngballymun as well as from the Jigsaw youngballymun staff team to inform the development of Headstrong's Youth Centre Practice training. To date, approximately 80 practitioners working across the community have been trained with a subset of these practitioners realigning their roles to take on more intensive and targeting work with young people, with more extensive training and supervision.

The working agreement between Headstrong and youngballymun came to an end in December 2011. Opportunities for future collaboration may emerge as 2012 progresses in the context of youngballymun's work to integrate the youth mental health, youth literacy and youth pregnancy and parenting dimensions of its programme.
